Biodiversity field study

BIODIVERSITY FIELD STUDY

SUMMARY

In this study, 30 students from 10th grade explore a forest ecosystem under the guidance of two experts: a professor of botany and an expert on entomology, both from Hacettepe University, Ankara. Students together with their teachers and the experts collect plant and invertebrate samples and identify these samples as well as the environment that they live in. Then they discuss the biotic and abiotic factors that affect the life of these organisms including habitat destruction and other human influences.

After the excursion students prepare a video using the photos and notes that they took during the field trip. This video is uploaded to youtube and shared with the students from Varmdö Gymnasium who do a similar study in Stockholm.

USEFUL TIPS AND HINTS

It would be useful if the teachers introduced ecology and classification topics to the students before this field study.
